We are still on the trail to the General Sherman Tree...

It was cool to see it peeking through other trees...

but then to approach it - and find no one standing by it  - I was happy!!

Fall Colors are always my favorite

We had been down in the Fresno/Bakersfield area and it still felt like summer

yet we got up to the Sequoias 

there was snow 

and definitely FALL!

Day 22 - February 2019

I am taking you back to the Sequoias today. Our trip was so amazing, and I took so many photos that it is taking me a while to go through them. But in doing so, I am sure enjoying reliving the vacation

I think that growth is called a Burl

.

I sorta remember a friend of my grandpa , using burls to make clock and unusual wood pieced

I wonder what this one could make?

When I was a kid my parents instilled in us a love of the outdoors

You can just imagine how happy my heart was to be surrounded by this.

General Sherman Tree

This is my view from the trail

But when you could see the whole tree peeking through

WOW!

It was pretty awesome

(especially when you see those people - who are less that 6ft tall)

On the Sherman Tree Trail

You start in the parking lot and walk downhill.

It felt like you were walking into the enchanted forest 

I loved it and was so amazed by all the trees

and of course the size of the trees.

The hike guides say that it is a 1/2 mile trail

that descends 200 feet - which is still not as tall as the 

General Sherman Tree

Day 14 - February 2019

I was so excited to head to the Sherman Tree

This tree is assumed to be 2200 years old!

That makes me feel better ( and a tad younger)

and it measures 275 feet tall

Amazing!!

You may be totally tired of trees by the end of this month - but I was amazed! The sheer size of these majestic trees, and the way they grew straight to the sun! I walked around looking up so much!

Can you imagine what it was like to discover this place?

We kept looking at this rock

and the closer we got to it the larger it was

and we had no idea that we would be able to hike to the top of it

and look down!!

in California
