WWII Memorial in DC

One of my favorite places to go when we Visit in Washington DC is the WWII memorial.

When we visited my Son this last summer, I really wanted to see the Memorials at night. I just thought it would be such a different effect than during the day... and I was right.  It was so neat!

I think this view ( above) is from the Colorado Pillar

and below - looking at the Lincoln Memorial from the WWII memorial

My Great Uncle was in the Navy at Pearl Harbor when this happened....

Thanks for Visiting!

Back to the Beach

Last fall we took a little trip to the beach - for us, that is 4 states away (or more... who counts right?)

we spent a lot of time on the docks and at the shoreline - we met the sailor of this boat, and he was preparing to head to a regatta in southern California, and travel down the coast to Mexico.

He was really cool to talk to. He told us all about his preparations, and the supplies that he had to take. You probably can't see this, as neither did I -  but in that cabin  - he has a complete kitchen, with  a refrigerator and stove!

(above) is another view of his boat and the Rock!

I love the clouds in the sky and the drama that they add to the view!

This was a fun trip - and it was warm where we were - sadly we left the kids behind .... and they had to do chores in the snow ... I shouldn't laugh -  but, well I did!

Marine Corp Base Quantico - Marine Museum

Have you ever been to the Marine Museum at Marine Corp Base Quantico?
If you haven't - that is truly a destination to head over to.

We were going to go for a few hours, and ended up staying the WHOLE day!
It was amazing!

Just in case you didn't believe I was really there (haha!)

This is the center Rotunda

The aircraft on Display are astounding!!

There is a section of the Museum dedicated to each war that the Marines were called in to - and I do not have a favorite - but the Iwo Jima area was amazing!

This is the flag.... It still gives me the chills to see it again

The whole story is there on the walls for all to see.

If you ever get a chance to go to this museum - I highly Recommend it
( and may have another post all about it soon)

you can read more about it here:

The View... The Mountains

The Hike to the Top

Day 10 - March 2019 - Moro Rock

Remember my LOVE for Black and white?
.
When I saw the way the light was shining on this trail,
I knew I wanted it to be a Black and White photo.
.
I might also take it in color too.... just in case
.
but in this case
.
I love how the B&W turned out!

Estes Park, Colorado

We love to hike and snow shoe and find ourselves driving through Estes Park on our way to Rocky Mountain National Park a lot. BUT! We seem to only stop and eat in Estes on our way back home.

My husband and I decided to take a little time to explore the town this time ;-)  and of course, I took my camera!

We love Bob and Tony's Pizza - they have something for everyone - including Gluten Free options - and it a fun place! Check out that snow!!!

This is the Park Theatre: The oldest Motion Picture Theatre in the US - Construction was begun in 1913 by J.L. Jackson and was completed by CH Bond. It has survived all sort of events including floods and still stands!

Don't you just love that there are towering mountains right behind it - such a beautiful place!

They have such fun shops - I mean Candy and Christmas ... right close to each other - it doesn't really get any better does it??? well..... maybe.....

We found this!!!!   THE ORIGINAL TAFFY SHOP!!!  Oh my stars - it was like heaven

There are three taffy shops in Estes - but THIS! is the Original and they are the only shop that makes their taffy on site! And it is yummy!!!  This store has used the same mysterious and highly guarded recipe for 81 years, and it is so soft and tasty! This sign and these buildings are part of the historic Estes Park - and so wonderful to visit!!

Isn't this a sweet store???  I was just mesmerized!
And Inside - this is the machine they use to cut and wrap the taffy

I was going to include a picture of our Taffy.... bu mysteriously - our box was empty by the time we got down the mountain.... We had Salted Caramel, Rootbeer, and of course.... Chocolate!

PS - want to order some?  Go to Original Taffy Shop  - they will hook you up!!

Here  is just another lovely view of the town, I just love that it is nestled right in the mountains!

And look at that - if you get cold - you have another little place to stop at!!   I think, you had better walk a lot in this town, because all the yummy stops will fill you up!!

We also stopped at a cute shop that all they sold was socks, but I was so enamored by all the socks I forgot to take a photo!

If you ever get a chance to tour this town - I highly recommend it! I am heading back soon.... and will definitely get more taffy!
